Amanda awards for the Norwegian Upperdog by Sara Johnsen

Upperdog directed by Sara Johnsen had its triumph at Den norske filmfestivalen which is currently being held in Haugesund, Norway (18-26 August 2010). The film, nominated for Amanda Awards in eight categories, won five prizes, including for best director, the best Norwegian film and best actress - Agnieszka Grochowska who played one of the leading roles. The stories about the lives of four young people who live in Oslo: a PR specialist with Vietnamese roots, a hard-working Polish cleaning woman, a Vietnamese waitress and a soldier who has just returned from a mission to Afghanistan, are intertwined astonishingly in Upperdog, telling a lot about the Norwegian culture and its attitude to foreigners.

The title of best foreign film was given by the Norwegian jury to The White Ribbon (Die Weisse Band) by Michael Haneke. The festival's opening ceremony featured Limbo by Maria Sødahl. The performance by the Swedish actress Lena Endre in this film was awarded an honorary prize by the festival and Liv Ullmann.

We remind you that next year, at the 11th ENH, under the section "Country in focus" we will showcase Norwegian cinematography to the festival audiences.
